Baltic Sculptures

About Us

My name is Michael Hosler. I am the owner and creator of Baltic Sculptures. Let me tell you a little about myself.

My Grandfather, Robert Galbraith, started making these sculptures in Florida when I was about 10 years old. I was always fascinated with how  he made them turn out so beautifully. However, when I tried, it wasn't even close. As a boy, I spent hours in the workshop trying my best to make them look similar to my grandfathers work. Having been in the construction business since graduating in 1988, I have always liked working with my hands, so this came very natural to me and I enjoy doing it.

When my grandfather moved to PA, I was able to spend more time with him to master his technique. In 2001, I was fortunate enough to receive all the secrets to his success in the sculpting business.

The sculptures are made from Baltic birch, a unique imported wood. I love the way the smoothness of the wood and the hand sculpting makes each peice a one of a kind work of art. Each sculpture is painstakingly created by hand and the subtle differences in shape and color of each sculpture evolve from the wood itself. My grandfather didn't use the different colors on his creations that I use on mine today. Many different color combinations have been tried and tested through my careful experimentation. With a lot of practice over the next five years, in 2006, I have mastered sculpting. My grandfather is very proud of me today.

My wife, Julie, and I reside outside of Carlisle, PA.
